How we open the door to sickness through our mind, body and soul!
Mind: It is said our negative emotions left unattended breed greater mental or emotional problems which results in sickness or worst death. The sad part is most of us have no idea that our physical illness is related to negative emotions that we have been carrying for years (even as far back as childhood). We stay in bondage never seeking answers, never standing on the word of God but instead accepting and welcoming sickness into our lives while we continue to take medicine that we know is only curing our symptoms but not healing our bodies. We have to stop inviting sickness into our lives feeling that sickness is a natural part of living and has a place in our life. We open the door to sickness and let it in by the way we speak to it for ex. saying “It feels like I’m getting sick, I feel like I’m catching something, I don’t feel good…. ”
Body: Our physical health can show signs of decline from guilt due to a series of sins committed or a string of lies that we have told; long held suppressed grudges can bring on chronic aches and pains. Skin rashes can result from a quarrel with someone; mental stress over things like exams, bills & arguments with friends and loved ones can bring on colds; the rhythm of your heart shows changes when responding to positive or negative thoughts; high blood pressure can arise from episodes of anger, fear, stress or imagined problems (the whatif syndrome). What if this happens or what if that happens? In all of these scenarios we are operating out of the will of God. We find ourselves being bullied by the enemy and he’s the type of bully that has you hurting yourself as he sits back and lays not one finger on you. Scripture: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” Eph 6:12
Soul/Spiritual: Allowing sickness to take up residence in our body affects our spiritual duties that we need to perform for the kingdom of God. Negative mental state can manifest itself into many spiritual problems such as: decrease in spirituality (going thru the motions…showing up for church every Sunday but God’s word is not penetrating the heart), loss of interest in spiritual things (don’t want to read your bible or pray), pulling away from fellow believers, ceasing to attend worship or spiritual gatherings (we just stop going to church all together), secretly holding anger against God or fellow believers. This is sad because most of the time when a person is going through a difficult moment in their life they pull away from God and the church instead of running to the church for spiritual nourishment & strength.
When our spirituality is affected we find ourselves swimming in a pool of discouragement, hopelessness, doubt, inconsistency, laziness and to put the cherries on top guilt & fear (The heavy hitters). Those 2 alone have already been linked to many mental & physical handicaps. When spiritual problems are not addressed, not only is our happiness lost but our joy and our future in Heaven is jeopardize. As my pastor has taught us, the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy not the physical us but the plan God has placed in us. What better way to destroy God’s plan in the church then to attack our minds which in turn creates sickness which in turn keeps us from doing the will of God and not necessarily because we don’t have the heart’s desire to do so…it’s that we don’t have the physical health and energy to do it.
Boom!….Checkmate!….God’s plan in us destroyed!
How do we turn our situations around?
As my Pastor has been teaching us…protect your light (your power from God), protect your heart (your connection to God), I want to piggy back and say protect your health (your ability to do God’s will).
*Protect your health by what you put into your body: healthy foods, proper water amounts, proper minerals & vitamins (which when we are deficient in this category we can develop many illnesses); protect against toxins: cigarettes, alcohol, drugs which are poisons to the body. Scripture: 19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. 1 Cor 6:19-20 NLT
*Protect your health by the environment you put yourself in. Is it stressful? Hostile? Abusive? All of which leaves emotional scars that lead to sickness. <unhealthy environment= living unhealthy> You have to remove yourself from an unhealthy environment for the sake of your health.
*Protect your health by the relationships you have with others. You must learn to disconnect from people who are toxic in your life-who spew out negativity (love them from a far) and connect to God (the source of your health) <unhealthy relationships=unhealthy living>
When we are not connected to God we live in unholiness which leads to us living unhealthy. Living unhealthy is living out of the will of God. We have to stop accepting sickness as a part of normal living. It is NOT! The scripture tells us John 10:10 that Jesus came that we may have life, and that we may have that life more abundantly. Living life in abundance is not living life in sickness!
So, in summary we cannot let the enemy keep us in bondage through sickness and keep us from doing the work of The Lord because in doing so we help the enemy destroy God’s plan for us and we never become who God truly created us to be. It is our Divine Right to live in optimal health….. Always Protect It!!! “Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God” 2 Cor 7:1 NLT
“Damned is the man who abandons himself….for you really abandon God at that moment”~Author Unknown
