Until recently, I never knew that there were some who oppose drinking alkaline water. I started drinking alkaline water about 10 years ago and have had nothing but positive results on my health journey. I always recommend drinking alkaline water to friends, family and especially my clients because of all the health benefits I have witness in my own life. But before we look at the benefits of drinking alkaline water let’s look at why the body needs water every day to function in optimal health.
Water is incredibly essential for the human body. In fact, the average adult body is made up of 50% to 65% water depending upon if you are male or female with most of the water being contained inside our cells. Water is used in the organs, tissues, and cells of the body to help regulate temperature and maintain necessary body functions, such as eliminating waste and transporting nutrients.
In other words, water is a carrier—it distributes vitamins, minerals, and glucose to nourish your cells. It also helps remove toxins from the body through the urine and feces.
I make it a priority to drink a lot of water every day. The general recommended daily intake of water is 8 to 10, eight-ounce glasses of water per day. That’s around 64 to 80 ounces a day. Water is a great way to begin to shed those unwanted pounds it separates the sensations of thirst and hunger. That’s because the body needs to be fully hydrated in order to maintain a healthy metabolism. It is recommended to drink 1/2 ounce of water per pound of your body weight every day (or half your weight in ounces ex. if you weigh 200 pounds you should drink 100 ounces of water daily) to help aid in weight loss. Water can also be consumed through our food such as fruits and vegetables.
Without water, nothing lives. Water is our main source of energy-it is the “cash flow” of the body. It generates electrical and magnetic energy inside each and every cell of the body…it provides the power to live. We can not survive without water it is the best medicine on earth created by God. Water is our life source physically and spiritually it is our ultimate connection to our creator. “Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.” John 7:38
From various research here are some of many health benefits of drinking water:
*Water breaks down our food into smaller particles which aids the body in their metabolism and assimilation. Water energizes our food.
*Water clears toxic waste from different parts of the body
*Water is the main lubricant in the joint spaces and helps prevent arthritis and back pain
*Water is used in the spinal discs to make them “shock-absorbing water cushions”
*Water prevents clogging of arteries in the heart and the brain
*Water can help in brain functions such as thinking and increasing attention span. It helps prevent the loss of memory as we age and reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and Lou Gehrig’s disease
*Water is the best pick-me-up energy drink out there in the world-and it has no side effects. It helps reduce fatigue
*Water helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression
*Water can help reverse addictive urges and prevent dehydration, including those for alcohol, some drugs and even caffeine (I’ve read for every cup of coffee you drink you have to drink 3 cups of water to prevent dehydration).
*Water is absolutely vital for making the immune system more efficient in fighting infections and cancer cells.
Even though there is a debate about what type of water is best for your health. I personally choose Alkaline water.
WHAT IS ALKALINE WATER?
“Alkalinity and acidity are both measurements on the pH scale of 1 to 14. Neutral is considered 7.0, and anything below that point is considered acidic. Alkaline water typically has a pH between 7.0 and 10.0 on the scale.
Another common name for alkaline water is ionized water. It is thought that natural spring water is the best source of alkaline water, with a pH around 8.0 to 9.0. Alkaline water also has a higher pH level than tap water. Regular tap water usually has a pH level of 6.0 to 7.0.
Natural alkaline water occurs when water travels over rocks. For instance, spring water will obtain minerals and increase in alkalinity during this process. Basically, spring water is naturally alkalinized.
However, there are products called alkaline ionizers that alkalize the water during electrolysis. It is a chemical process that separates water into more acidic or alkaline molecules. Alkaline water and water ionizers are typically found in many health foods stores or grocery stores.” ~Doctors Health Press
HEALTH BENEFITS OF ALKALINE WATER
Because our diets today are rich in acidic foods such as: processed foods, dairy, sugar, and red meat our bodies are forever in an acidic state and Alkaline water helps alkalize our acidic bodies. Research shows that dis-ease can not survive in an acidic environment and that you can live longer drinking alkaline water. “One study called the Okinawa Centenarian Project found that people from Okinawa, Japan, regularly live to 100 years old—they drink alkaline water with a pH of 10.0!”~Doctors Health Press
Research also suggests a handful of other alkaline water benefits:
*Aids in Detoxification: Drinking alkaline water can help detox the body of harmful toxins and heavy metals, such as mercury.
*Reduces Acid Reflux: Research shows that alkaline water can be a beneficial therapeutic treatment for patients with acid reflux disease. Alkaline water also inactivates pepsin, an enzyme that plays a role in acid reflux.
*Can Help Improve Bone Health: Alkaline water could also improve bone health. It is thought that alkaline water is a safer dietary source of calcium than milk or dairy.
*Provides Antioxidants: Alkaline water is a natural antioxidant that can neutralize harmful radicals in the body.
*Improves Heart Health: Drinking alkaline water can reduce certain risk factors associated with heart disease such as reduce blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol.
*Drinking alkaline water may also help hydrate your body, improve mental clarity, and boost your overall immune system.
I believe drinking alkaline water is a good idea and provides many health benefits I am a living testament of this. I prefer to get my alkaline water straight from a filtration system but many health food stores sell bottled alkaline water and things that can be used to alkalize your water such as alkaline water sticks or alkaline drops. There are also recipes I have found online to alkalize water at home with baking soda. Whether you believe in the benefits of alkaline water or not just make sure to drink the proper amount of good water your body needs to reach optimal health. Your body needs water and deserves water physically & spiritually!!!
